Zero Cloud Relay

Your data stays on
your device.

We built Browsenote because we believe reading the web shouldn't mean sacrificing your privacy to a cloud server. Here is our complete, transparent data policy.

Never Collected

  • URLs of the websites you visit
  • Text content from your open tabs
  • Your generated AI summaries
  • Your IP address or location
  • Your keystrokes or search history

Anonymous Telemetry

We collect minimal, anonymous data strictly to ensure the WebGPU model loads correctly and the extension doesn't crash.

// Example Analytics Payload
const payload = {
  "event": "model_loaded",
  "hardware": "apple_m_series",
  "load_time_ms": 1240,
  "version": "2.0.1"
};

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: February 28, 2026

1. Introduction & Core Philosophy

Welcome to Browsenote. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information across our marketing website and browser extension. Our core philosophy is simple: your browsing data belongs to you. By utilizing local WebGPU technology, our AI models process your data directly on your hardware. We do not have access to your notes, summaries, or browsing history.

2. Website vs. Extension Data

We strictly separate the data handled by our marketing website from the Browsenote extension:

  • The Website (browsenote.com): If you sign up for our waitlist, newsletter, or purchase a license, we collect basic contact information (like your email address) and payment processing data via our secure providers (e.g., Stripe).
  • The Extension: The extension operates entirely locally. It does not transmit your web page content, generated summaries, or personal notes to our servers.

3. Browser Permissions Explained

To function correctly, the Browsenote extension requests the following strictly scoped browser permissions:

  • activeTab: Allows the AI to read the text of the currently visible tab only when you explicitly click the Browsenote icon or trigger a shortcut. It cannot read background tabs.
  • storage: Used to save your preferences, settings, and generated notes locally on your device's hard drive.
  • scripting: Required to inject the local AI interface overlay into the webpage you are actively summarizing.

4. Telemetry & Anonymous Analytics

To ensure the local WebGPU models are functioning without crashing, we collect non-personally identifiable telemetry. You can opt-out of this completely in the extension settings.

This limited data includes installation events, basic hardware capabilities (e.g., "Apple Silicon" vs "Intel"), and error stack traces if the AI model fails to load. This data contains zero user content and cannot be tied back to your identity.

5. Third-Party Services & Model Downloads

While AI processing happens offline, the extension must initially download the AI model weights from a secure Content Delivery Network (CDN) upon first launch or during updates. During this download, the CDN temporarily logs standard web traffic data, such as your IP address, for routing and security purposes. No user data is sent in these requests.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

Because your notes and summaries are stored entirely in your browser's local storage, you are the sole administrator of your data retention. You can permanently delete all Browsenote data at any time by clearing your browser's extension data or uninstalling the Browsenote extension. We cannot recover this data for you once deleted, as we never possessed it.

7. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data under laws like the GDPR (Europe) or CCPA (California). While we do not hold your browsing data, you may exercise these rights regarding your website account data (like your email address) by contacting us directly. We do not sell your personal information.

8. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as we add new features or as privacy laws evolve. If we make material changes, we will notify you via an update in the extension or via email if you are subscribed to our updates.
